Net-Centric Software
Net-centric software has fixed functions, but can be created dynamically, and then verified and validated in real-time without human intervention.
The Net-Centric Software & Systems Consortium performs the fundamental research needed to completely restructure net-centric software. Since these applications will be available via networks, and since some of the most important applications of net-centric software will be within the defense industry, the development of net-centric software demands flawless handling of security and dependability.
The Need for Net-Centric Development
We develop programs for civilian applications, integrated communication systems, networked sensor systems, and command and control systems.
We can see a shift in military services from platform-based systems (operating independently) to network-centric, integrated computing infrastructures when operating, for example, planes, ships and missiles.
The current systems leave a lot to be desired, however. Effective integration is yet to be developed for this use, and this is hurtful to the availability, security, interoperability, and cost of the current systems. Most current approaches to net-centric software are to try to “patch” the current system. The patch solution only makes interoperability even more complex. Therefore, it is our consortium’s goal to upgrade net-centric software from the bottom-up.
